Jelly Roll-friendly and quick to piece, this Showering Stars quilt is full of drama! I knew with the Sweet Pea & Lily collection for Moda Fabrics (ships in Feb/March 2019) I wanted a quilt that used deep purple to enhance the theatrical nature of the purples in the prints. One thing I enjoy with this group is the purples are in both cool and warm purples. I needed to find the right deep purple to show off their splendor. I have now fallen in love with Moda Bella Solid PRUNE 238. Its rich and vibrant and LUSCIOUS! Its the glorious deep purple/plum color as the background. Did I mention I bought a bolt of it? Not sure what I'm doing with the rest but I can't wait to use it as an accent to other prints. But what would Showering Stars look like reversed, with a light background? I haven't made it this way (yet) but thought I'd give some computer inspiration for other colorways. I used a soft gray in the star points and dashes to let the colors in the star trails feel more colorful and sparkly. And going all-out color with this turquoise background and light green star points. Completely different look but all of these are using the same Sweet Pea & Lily prints in the star trails. This quilt was my main booth image at the Houston Quilt Market this past fall. It was fun to have such a different color play with this collection! One part I like is the greens and grays still transition through from previous collections. Check your local quilt shop for the Showering Stars pattern, along with Sweet Pea & Lily fabrics! Patterns are also available at my online shop if your local shop is not carrying it. Find a falling star and make a wish! And check back for more Sweet Pea & Lily quilts!

Is there another deep purple color you would suggest in place of "prune"....I have not been able to find it anywhere! I have the jelly roll and necessary white called for in the pattern but the purple is another matter......Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Another purple is Bella Solids 21. It is a dark purple, and is a little cooler purple and a little more vibrancy.

Hi, Robin. I wanted to touch base with you on Showering Stars Pattern. Loved the design so much I scheduled a class in my Shop for it and then got busy making the sample. I ran into a problem: the pattern say the quilt top measures 75" x 92". Even when adding up the raw cut pieces lenghwise, this quilt doesn't come anywhere near 92". The first row on the left looking at the quilt top only measures 91.5" BEFORE sewing those pieces together. It also measures a half inch shorter than all the other verical rows after everything is assembled. I feel like I am nit-picking, but when you are selling a pattern to my customers as a class, it better be correct or you are going to hear about it. I feel you should print a correction for the first row. I also feel you should print a correction regarding these errors. The only way I see to fix this after assembling the quilt is to trim the lenth down to the shorted vertical row length. Definitely NOT 92". PS - Thank GOD the class didn't fill and was cancelled.

HI Elsa. First off, thank you for your message regarding the length of the quilt. You are right and it was a mistake on my part. I do say inside the pattern instructions to trim the vertical rows down to 90 inches after assembling the rows but I must have overlooked correcting the overall dimensions. I apologize for any inconvenience and it will be corrected on the reprint and a correction added in to any new patterns that ship out now.

That's great Robin! I did see where you trim the quilt, but of course it wasn't clicking for me due to the overall quilt size being listed the way it was. I rhink you are handling it exactly right. Best of luck in your future designs. Thanks for your response to my comments. :-)

Hi Robin I just finished my Showering Stars quilt on Sunday. Need to finish pressing it and trim the top and bottom edges. I used Sweet Pea Lily 48626-35 Plum fabric for the background so I had to change out those fabrics in the tails. I'm really happy with how it turned out. I love the Sweet Pea and Lily fabric line so much, I bought the kit for the Faceted quilt also.

oh what a good idea to use that fabric from the line for the background! I bet it looks really pretty! I'd love to see a picture. Let me know if you have one. And thanks for getting the Faceted kit! My local quilt shop has taught that as a class and I love seeing all the different fabrics people use and how it looks with them.

The kit I purchased uses the Sweat Pea and Lily fat quarters. I recently noticed that there are pictures of different layouts of the Faceted quilt. I have half of the the quilt done, need to get the rest laid out and sewn.

I contacted my quilter and she sent me the information. Superior Threads FANTASTICO. The color is either 5115 (lighter) or 5116 (darker).

I plan to make this using Moda Grunge purple and Kaffe Fassett fabric for the stars. I wonder, can I modify the size to make it more of a square 70 x 70 quilt?
